Bridges

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is permanent dental restoration comprised of a replacement tooth supported by crowns or wings which are bonded to adjacent teeth.

A high-quality, custom-made bridge is often unnoticeable, blending in with the shape and appearance of your existing teeth to enhance your smile.

What is the procedure for a dental bridge?

With a conventional bridge, your dentist will first prepare the supporting teeth either side of the gap left by the missing tooth.

The adjacent teeth are shaped in preparation to receive dental crowns which will support the bridge. Impressions or scans of your teeth are taken from which the crowns and bridge will be made.

With a resin bonded bridge, minimal preparation is required on the supporting teeth.

A dental bridge treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic to ensure minimal discomfort.

Your new bridge will then be precision-crafted to match your natural teeth for shade and shape. Porcelain is a popular choice for its natural tooth colour.

At your next appointment, your bridge will be permanently fixed in place.

What are the advantages of a dental bridge?

A bridge can be an effective and long-lasting way to replace one or more teeth.

A dental bridge treatment can also:

  • Restore confidence in your smile.
  • Prevent adjacent teeth from moving or tilting.
  • Improve comfort when eating.
  • Evenly distribute biting force.
  • Restore clarity of speech.

Is a dental bridge right for me?

A dental bridge can be a strong and long-lasting replacement for missing teeth.

As a bridge relies on the support of adjacent teeth, your dentist may suggest an alternative solution if you have already had dental restoration work or oral health issues.
